At Our Lady Star of the Sea, students explore, engage in and develop important mathematical ideas, knowledge and skills that they will draw on in their lives.
The Mathematics curriculum focuses on developing mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning, modelling and problem solving to enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by using mathematics to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently.
The Mathematics curriculum strands are Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability. These are explored through a differentiated learning experiences to cater for and target individual learning needs, abilities and interests. Explicit teaching, independent activities, open ended and investigative type tasks are implemented in an environment that promotes collaborative learning and provides challenges thus enabling and extending student learning.
Mathematics is also reinforced in other learning areas as students engage in a range of learning activities that develop useful mathematical and numeracy skills for everyday life.
Students are provided with a range of task types, including open-ended tasks and personal investigations, where students are able to experience success.
Students are challenged in their Mathematical thinking. By learning through games, hands on activities and technology, students are encouraged to pursue their personalised investigations whilst enjoying their experiences and learning in Mathematics.
