God of honesty, forgiveness, love, doer of good deeds,
tolerance and justice listen to our prayers.
We pray that we may build our lives on honesty and always be
willing to be truthful people.
We pray that we may build our lives on forgiveness and be
willing to show others the kind of mercy we want to be
shown.
We pray that we build our lives on love and be willing to be
patient, kind and generous people.
We pray that we build our lives on good deeds and be
prepared to listen to the Spirit guiding us to help others.
We pray that we build our lives on tolerance and be ready to
be understanding and patient and accept others for who they
are.
We pray that we build our lives on justice and be willing to
stand up for others and do what is right.
We ask this through Jesus your Son. Amen
Selamat Siang parents,
As we enter Week 5 of the term we see your children very engaged with learning and socially, building on former relationships and forming new ones. Peer support lessons have concluded with the Year 6 students doing a wonderful job of planning and implementing lessons based on the Respectful Relationships curriculum, whilst all students from Year 1-4 also formed new connections with each other.
We had an amazing turnout yesterday for our working bee with a particular request for Green Hub parents to attend. A very big Terima kasih to the many families who attended : Briggs, Monahan, Kemp, Miller, Morgan, Bonacci, Currie, Warland, Due, Ellis, Gauld, Reynolds, Fay, Kirs Diaz, Ward, Clark, Burchell, McCall, Vanderkley.
Our Sustainability Day on Tuesday was a huge success with engaging guest speakers and the band, The Formidable Vegetables, performing for the whole school. I ask that we all continue the momentum and focus with our children both at home and school to care for our world and ensure sustainable practices are continued in our daily lives.
As part of our child safety practices, we ask that when coming into the school to volunteer you report to reception to sign in and receive your lanyard and of course sign out when you are leaving. Teachers are welcoming any parent volunteers to support learning in the hubs.
Please note that if you have a concern about an issue for your child which has occurred at school you contact firstly your child's classroom teacher. Any concerns you have for your child which occur at school need to be supported at school level . The steps for any grievance are outlined in our policy. Click on the link to read. Complaints Policy
Best wishes for the week ahead.

Hospitality will be offered after Mass.
Resilience - Everybody’s life has ups and downs
Adults sometimes look back on their childhood as a time when they were always happy, but life’s ups and downs are a part of childhood too. Children need to build resilience skills to be able to both enjoy good times and deal with hard times. Helping children learn how to manage life’s ups and downs and build their coping skills supports their mental health and wellbeing now and into the future. Feeling good protects mental health and wellbeing.
Did you know that experiencing positive emotions such as joy, pleasure and having fun are essential experiences for building and maintaining a healthy mind across our whole lives?
Skills and qualities that help children cope with life’s ups and downs
- Trust - that the world is safe and that there are caring people to help them.
- Belief - in their ability to do things for themselves and achieve their goals.
- Feeling good - about themselves and feeling valued for who they are by their parents and carers.
- Optimism - that things generally turn out well.
- Regulation - Ability to manage their feelings, thoughts and behaviours.
Children develop these skills and qualities and learn to keep a balance over time, initially through their experiences in coping with small stresses with help from supportive adults. When bigger stresses come along, even though at first they might feel quite distressed, children can draw on what they have learned about helping themselves to cope and feel better. Looking to others for support continues to be an effective way of coping.
How are your child’s resilience skills developing?
Resilience is the ability to cope with life’s ups and downs. Children’s resilience is enhanced when they:
- are loved by someone unconditionally
- have an older person outside the home they can talk to about problems and feelings
- are praised for doing things on their own and striving to achieve
- can count on their family being there when needed
- know someone they want to be like
- believe things will turn out all right
- have a sense of a power greater than themselves
- are willing to try new things
- feel that what they do makes a difference in how things turn out
- like themselves
- can focus on a task and stay with it
- have a sense of humour
- make goals and plans, both short and longer term.
Feeling optimistic and hopeful are key parts of mental health and wellbeing.

The 2019 Student Levy was due on Friday 15 February. Thank you to the families who have made this payment.
The Student Levy is used to purchase student requirements necessary for the learning and teaching program, including the required book list items, the swimming programs and class excursions, Sacramental Programs - Year 3 Reconciliation, Year 4 Eucharist, Year 6 Confirmation; Year 5/6 Interschool Sports.
Traditionally Shrove Tuesday is the last day of feasting before fasting for Lent. Lent begins the following day, Ash Wednesday, and goes through until Easter Sunday.
On Tuesday 5 March students can have a pancake, for a gold coin donation. Proceeds from the donations will go to Caritas, which is a Catholic organisation which assists communities around the world through Project Compassion.
This year the teachers will be linking the history of Shrove Tuesday to why and how pancakes are made on Shrove Tuesday. Parents do not need to be concerned about supplying ingredients for the hub. Teachers in each hub will be sourcing the ingredients.
School registered volunteers are needed to cook the pancakes on the day. Information will be in Hub news in coming weeks.

A Caremonkey form will be distributed to all students. Please read through all the information and keep in mind that we do ask for parent help on the day and information regarding students returning to school at the conclusion of the day.
Athletics day requires large volunteer numbers in order to run the events smoothly and within the time constraints of the day. Volunteers are asked to nominate which area they would prefer to assist in - Juniors Years or Middle/Seniors years, along with a time estimate for when you are available on the day. Ms Lisa will email all parents wishing to volunteer of the job and the teacher you will be working with.
Information relating to return travel is required to assist us with ordering buses from Landy Field back to school.
DIVISION SWIMMING
Thank you to all the students who took part in our school swimming trials last week. We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful swimmers. Our school can only submit 2 students per event per age group. Unfortunately, this means some students who trialled have not been selected in the Swim team for this year. These students have been notified by Ms Lisa and encouraged to have a go again next year and to be proud of their achievements.
Students who have been selected have also been notified and have a hard copy of the events they will be participating in. A Caremonkey eform will be distributed next week. The Division Swimming Championship will be held at Kardinia Aquatic Centre, Wednesday 20 March 2019.
National Ride2School Day is coming up on this Friday 22 March. We are registered as a school and we will be providing stickers and prizes for everyone who participates. It would be great if we can have many riders and walkers on this day. If you cannot ride or walk it would be great to walk a short, safe distance from school so that you are still making an effort to travel actively and be part of the day.
Thanks, Travelsmart leaders
