Term 4 week 5
Dear Parents and Carers
Last week we celebrated World Teacher’s Day. On this day, we acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding work of our teachers and in line with the MACS vision, the work they do in forming lives of faith, hope and love whilst inspiring and enabling our students to flourish and enrich the world.
I personally would like to thank our teachers for the respect, nurture and engagement they provide each day in their dedication, passion and commitment to our students and families of Our Lady Star of the Sea. I am incredibly proud of the exceptional contributions that each teacher makes.
As a community and, in a joyful way, we acknowledged our wonderful teachers at assembly with character strength awards which the students wrote and presented. All our students really enjoyed this opportunity to celebrate their amazing teachers, as did the teachers.
Mission Fete: Our Mission Fete is fast approaching. At Our Lady Star of the Sea, we believe that faith is not just a personal journey, but a call to mission. As parents, you play a vital role in nurturing your child's spirituality, and we are here to support. Nurturing Hearts and Minds In the spirit of our Catholic faith, we strive to instill in our children the values of compassion, love, and service to others. We aim to nurture their hearts and minds, helping them grow into faithful and compassionate individuals who are ready to take on the world with a spirit of mission.
Mission Fete is one such way we provide this in action each year. Many thanks for your support in this significant call to action. Please read your hub news for further details for the day.
ARTS Trail: A very busy week next week also sees our wonderful ARTS trail coming to life. The students, with wonderful facilitation from their teachers, have been enhancing their creativity and bringing their talents to the fore over the past weeks. Rachael Thomas has led this so magnificently and we look forward to the ARTS being in the spotlight for the night. You are welcome to come along anytime between 4-7 pm and stay for your own picnic dinner or buy from the food van if you wish. Please note, your children are under your supervision and care for the time you are at the Arts Trail. They cannot independently come along without an adult We are very proud of the students' efforts in this space as they showcase their creative art pieces.
Master plan: Recently, we have applied for a State government grant. Each year we apply for both Federal and State Government grants. Through the recent process of updating our masterplan the priority works identified for Stage 1 are as follows:
- Refurbishment of existing staffroom into new classroom space to allow 4 stream structure
- New ground floor administration, entrance, amenities and STEM/Visual Arts space
- New second floor 4 classroom learning hub, library, staff room, staff planning space and amenities
Please Click here Master Plan 2023 to view the current plans.
Junior Rotary Community Award: Congratulations to the following Year 6 students that took part in and presented their projects for the 2023 Junior Rotary Community Award. This is a huge achievement for students and their supporting families and their efforts were acknowledged with a framed certificate. A small number have also been invited to attend the Annual Rotary Meeting Dinner tonight at the Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club. Thank you to Judy and Tony and their team from Rotary who facilitate this initiative each year with regular visits and commitment to helping our students succeed and enable opportunity to develop their good citizen skills which we want as part of all our student's future. A huge congratulations to;

Raffle Prizes
Thank you to all those that helped package these on Monday and Lib Macpherson for her very generous donations. The prizes are looking great! Come past the office and check them out.
We encourage students to use their own money, or complete tasks around the home, to earn money for Mission Fete activities. We hope this will help students appreciate the value of money. Most students usually spend around $10. Coins are great, in a bag or purse with the child’s name on it. Children can order sausages for $1 each. They can pay their money on the day.

2023 has been our Beacons of Hope year. We have celebrated the shining lights our students bring to our community. Our ‘Beacons’ burn bright, sharing Hope, Love and Understanding in an increasingly complex world.
In recognition of these beautiful, bright beacons, our concert celebration theme is SHINE. Now, it's time for our students to become the stars, shining on the stage. Our students, our Beacons of Hope, are having their moment to truly shine!
Our concert will take place in Week 10. More details will be posted closer to the event. Costume notes will be provided by your class teacher, and will be available in the Week 7 newsletter. Please email your class teacher if you have any questions.
Please BYO folding chair, or picnic rug.
