Dear Parents.
Welcome back to Term 3. I trust you had a wonderful, relaxing break and some “down time” together as a family.
One of the features of our school is the fantastic ongoing support from parents, which is enthusiastically given to the students and to the teachers.
We cannot thank the Parents and Friends association and all parent volunteers for all their efforts in bringing family friendly events to our community. With money raised during these events we have had amazing grounds work completed in the junior “forest” area, outside Purple Hub and the front of the school.
Here are some photos.
It is very exciting to create more spaces and opportunities for outside classroom learning and play.
Don’t forget another great opportunity for some family fun and building more positive relationships is the Drive in Movie showing Toy Story 4 on Friday 13 September. If you were unable to access a ticket you can still come prior from 4.30 pm onwards to the fair which has activities for the whole family to enjoy.
The attendance of parents to the student, parent, teacher conversations was also a witness to your ongoing support. Through these conversations students and their teachers discussed with parents the student achievements for Semester One and focussed future learning for Semester Two. It was fantastic to see the students getting ready and being so proud to have the opportunity to share their work, and excited at being able to share in this way. The conversations gave the students an opportunity to discuss the aspects of their learning that they feel confident with, and the aspects of their learning where they feel they may need extra support. World-wide educational research highlights the absolute importance of the home-school partnership and the positive outcomes it can have on a student’s academic, social and emotional growth and well- being. Please continue to support your children in achieving their learning goals.
Principal for the Day: Last term we saw Jackson Riddle as our Principal for the Day. Jackson’s name was drawn out from the Gotcha awards box, which acknowledges students kind ánd positive actions. Jackson was able to also gain some great feedback from the students which included compliments and suggestions. Thank you for your great work Jackson .
CAMP:
The Year 5 and 6 students had very successful Camps in the final week of term at Lady Northcote in Bacchus Marsh. We thank all staff and parents involved. We wish the Year 3 and 4 students a great time at their one night camps this week at Anglesea. We are very proud of the wonderful way our students conduct themselves when offsite and often receive positive feedback about the respect and positive behaviour of the Our Lady Star of the Sea students.
Drop off pick up please note to be respectful and patient for everyone’s safety and in line with our respectful and nurturing vision.
Catholic Education Today Edition 2
This edition includes a fabulous display of the new and refurbished learning spaces in some of our schools, the issue also provides parents with information about the 2019 Australian Catholic Youth Festival, guidance on completing School Improvement surveys and, regular features, Educators in Profile and Around the Archdiocese.
We look forward to another successful term with wonderful learning opportunities, using our terrific flexible spaces inside and outside the classrooms. The hub news in each newsletter gives you more detail as to all the learning and extra curricula opportunities in each year level. Please ensure you read this each fortnight.
Best wishes for the first fortnight of Term 3.

Student Absences Procedures
Teachers need to know where children are every school day and it is an expectation that you notify your child’s teacher to inform of student absences and the reason for absence. The preferred way for doing so is for you to directly email the child’s teacher before 9.30am on the day of absence.

Congratulations to Zayne Garner for your recent success in Scouting - 1st/2nd Ocean Grove Cub Pack.
To attain the award in each of the five Sections in Scouting reflects initiative in tackling this challenge, sustained effort over many months and years, plus self-discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Well done Zayne.
Just a reminder to update your child’s profile on CareMonkey. Correct information is then available to teachers on excursions and off site activities. Updates to your child’s information can then also be recorded by school administration. New Asthma or Anaphylaxis Management Plans can be uploaded to CareMonkey by a parent/guardian.
This year in October our school is participating in Walktober. We will be promoting travelling to school actively by walking, riding and scooting. Each day we will record how many students have travelled to and from school in an active way. Each class will have their own chart and we compete with other schools in our area for prizes. If it is not practical to travel actively all the way from home, you can still be involved by getting dropped a safe distance from school and walking from there. We hope everyone gets involved!
Thanks, Travelsmart group.
