Lenten Prayer for Peace
Lord of Peace,
In this season of Lent, as we journey with Christ toward the cross,
Quiet our hearts and calm our minds.
Amid the noise and chaos of this world,
Help us find rest in Your presence.
Grant us the courage to seek reconciliation,
To forgive as we have been forgiven,
And to sow seeds of peace wherever we go.
Teach us to lay down our burdens of anger and resentment,
And to pick up the mantle of compassion and understanding.
May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding,
Guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Fill our homes, our communities, and our world
With the harmony that only You can provide.
Guide our steps on this Lenten journey,
That we may walk in the way of peace,
Reflecting Your light and love to all we meet.
In Jesus' name, we pray.
Dear Parents and Carers
Next week we will be heading into the Lenten season with Shrove Tuesday 4th March and Ash Wednesday 5th March. The Year of Jubilee and Lent both focus on renewal, forgiveness, and new beginnings. They encourage us to restore relationships, seek forgiveness and renew our faith. During Lent, we are called to pray, fast and give to those in need. In the spirit of Jubilee, prayer helps us reconnect with God and reflect on our lives, including praying for those in need, including those less fortunate.
Fasting during Lent invites us to let go of distractions and grudges, creating space for forgiveness and renewal. It also encourages us to donate saved resources to causes of hope, such as through Project Compassion. The theme this year being “Unite against poverty.” Almsgiving and service reflect the Jubilee’s emphasis on justice and community support, showing love through charity and acts of kindness.
Together, these practices inspire actions of hope and community solidarity, guiding us to live with mercy, justice, and love.
At Our Lady Star of the Sea, during this Lenten Season, we will place a project compassion box on each prayer table and students can donate coins. We also have the Easter raffle, where we ask for donations of chocolate, Year 3-6, and packaging Year Prep-2. We will then provide raffle books to sell tickets for the raffle at $5 a book. All funds raised will go to Caritas who will distribute to those less fortunate. Teaching our children about giving to those less fortunate helps them develop empathy, compassion and a sense of gratitude. It nurtures a generous spirit and encourages them to contribute positively to their community and the world.
Here are two clips, one to explain the Jubilee Year more clearly and the second which leads straight to the Caritas Project Compassion website.
Please read your hub news regarding more details for Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday activities.

Uniform at Our Lady Star of the Sea: Please click here to view our Uniform Policy. We often receive questions about school shoes. School shoes should be all black and we encourage leather.
Black leather traditional school shoes, all black runner styled "school" shoes or boots. School Shoes Options The school is ok with all these options but the flat soled “skate” shoes such as converse and vans are excluded.
Socks remain a problem and really affect the look of the uniform. They must be grey or white with no labels. Thank you for your respect and support in following our school uniform policy.

Scholastic Book Club provides families with an affordable and convenient way to bring the best in children’s literature into their homes. As well as bridging the important class-to-home reading gap, Book Club also benefits Australian schools—for every Book Club order placed, Scholastic gives back 15% of the order spend to schools to purchase valuable educational resources.
Orders are once a term. A volunteer is required to access the platform when the order lodgement is due, and confirm. When orders are delivered to school the volunteer will come in to distribute them. All orders arrive labelled with the student's'name so there is no collation of orders, just distribute to classes. Orders are placed by families online so there is no money to be handled.
This role is a great way to volunteer some time to the school.
Issue 2 orders close 24 March

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Every Victorian child should have access to the world of learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) helps ensure that no student will miss out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities. It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the Government’s commitment to breaking the link between a student’s background and their outcomes.
