Prayer for NAIDOC week
As we stand around this fire, let us receive its blessing;
Spirit of the Fire, be on our lips, that we may speak the truth in kindness.
Spirit of the Fire, put your glow in our eyes, that we may see what is good in life and in all people
Spirit of the Fire, burn in our ears, that we may hear with deep listening.
Spirit of the Fire, be in our arms and hands, that we may serve others with care
Spirit of the Fire, be in our legs and feet so that we may walk the earth with respect and give thanks for its life-giving nourishment
Spirit of the Fire, brand our hearts with the eternal flame of your love, that we may become the bearers of peace, beauty, hope, harmony and Reconciliation.
Dear Parents and Carers
Last Friday, our Fire Carriers along with Year 3 BR led a wonderful assembly, focusing on National Sorry Day in the lead up to National Reconciliation Week this week from the 27th of May- 3rd of June. All students created and contributed to a whole school display with a 'Sea of Hands'. Each child decorated their hand with symbols of community, family, strength and reconciliation. This was to commemorate the Stolen Generations, their families and communities, celebrating their strength and survival and sharing in the process of healing and reconciliation.
As part of our catholic community, reconciliation is calling on us to live a life of love and peace with all we meet. When celebrating NAIDOC week, we, along with First Nations people, see "reconciliation, at its heart, being about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians."
Norm Jurrawaa Stanley 8/11/1977-15/5/2024: It is with sadness we share the news that Norm Stanley passed away recently. Norm worked closely with our Year 4, 5 and 6 students during term one last year to create the beautiful mural that at the end of the portables. He also presented at a whole school assembly, sharing his story and cultural awareness.
Norm engaged and connected so beautifully with our students and was an incredible advocate and role model for First Nations people and all of us. A huge loss for our community. Nikki, Norm's partner also generously worked with us. Below is the deeply spiritual and loving message that Nikki shared on his passing.
Norm Jurrawaa Stanley
Our Warrior laid down his weapons and spread his wings, to soar high at sun down with the first stars shining bright
You have braved what many couldn't and you stood strong and proud til you were no longer able.
No more pain My Love
We will forever love you and honour you in each and everything we do

Exiting Shell Road Gate: We respectfully request your help regarding the very busy few minutes that 3:30pm brings at the back Shell Road Oval gate. Whilst we have teacher supervision, there are so many adults and children exiting at the same time (and with bikes) it can be challenging. We are wondering, where possible, you could meet your child outside the gate please if you are collecting them. Alternatively, stay a few minutes in the playground after the bell to help stagger the exit times. Teachers try to get the Preps out a few minutes early but this extra safety step may help alleviate any safety issues.
Wishing you all a fortnight ahead filled with peace and love.

Family School Improvement Survey
Dear Parents/Carers
In 2024, our school is participating in Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS). MACSSIS is an annual process whereby schools listen to the thoughts and feelings that students, families and staff have about how their school can improve. These surveys help inform the ongoing improvement of schools across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
One of the main goals of the family survey is to identify the strengths and areas for improvement in our school. MACSSIS data benefits everyone within our school and provides valuable community insights on areas that each school can focus on. Our school believes it is important to encourage families to have a voice and contribute to shaping the ongoing improvement of the school.
The survey is available online, can be accessed from Monday 2 September and needs to be completed by Friday 20 September 2024. This survey may only be completed once. I will be emailing out the surveys on Monnday so please look out for it in your Inbox.
Kind regards
Paul Anderson

A lonely shoe has been taken off the roof. If you have its pair at home, come to the office to collect. The sports uniform was left at BASC a few weeks ago, most likely at after school swimming lessons. It is in the office also.

Respected Sir/Madam,
Approximately 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. Between 20 and 50 million people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability as a result of their injury. Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5–29 years. The main reason behind these road accidents is not following or knowing traffic and road safety rules.
Trafficquiz.com is a free-to use website developed with the aim of spreading awareness regarding traffic rules and road safety rules. Through trafficquiz.com, students can learn and test their knowledge about traffic and road safety rules in an entertaining way, i.e., by playing quizzes. Teachers and parents can also use trafficquiz.com regularly to refresh their knowledge about traffic, road safety, and child safety rules. School bus drivers can also regularly use it to learn and be conscious about following traffic rules. The benefit of being online is that trafficquiz.com can be used anytime, anywhere, on any device.
We request that you kindly share the links given below with students, parents, teachers, and the driving staff so that everyone can learn and be conscious about following road safety and traffic rules. This can save many lives.
The links are as follows:
- For Age group (5 to 9 years):
https://trafficquiz.com/road-safety-quiz-junior-level-1/
- For Age group (10 to 15 years):
https://trafficquiz.com/road-safety-quiz-secondary-level-1/
- For Parents (Child safety quizzes):
https://trafficquiz.com/child-safety-quiz-for-parents-level-1/
- For Parents and Teachers (Traffic & road safety rules quizzes):
https://trafficquiz.com/road-safety-quiz-for-adults-level-1/
- For Drivers and support staff:
https://trafficquiz.com/road-safety-quiz-for-adults-level-1/
Why is it necessary?
- About three-quarters (73%) of all road traffic deaths occur among young males under the age of 25.
- More than half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users: pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
- Road traffic injuries cause considerable economic losses to individuals, their families, and to nations as a whole.
