Our Lady Star of the Sea School Prayer
Dear God,
This is our school.
Let it be a place of love and hope as we come to learn and pray surrounded by people who care for us; friends, family, and teachers.
May our actions make each day brighter for someone whom we talk with, share our time with, experiencing new exciting things may we approach new challenges without fear, knowing others are there to guide and support us.
May all teachers lead by example and in their teaching take their students on a journey of discovery.
Let us remember our challenge to be like Jesus and his mother Mary and may we make Our Lady Star of the Sea school a place where people feel welcome.
We ask this prayer through Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Dear Parents and Carers
In this time of Lent and almsgiving, we would like to share this letter from Sr Abeba. As you are aware we raise money every year via the Mission fete for the Bulbula community and have done so for the last 14 years. Sr Abeba, is expressing with a grateful heart, her thanks for the blessings, we as a community, have bestowed and sharing the hardships her community of Bulbula endure at present and daily. This social justice action your children enact, aligns well with the MACS purpose ‘Forming lives of faith, hope and love in the light of Jesus Christ’ and vision ‘Every student is inspired and enabled to flourish and enrich the world’.
We continue to keep this community in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear Marianne Caddy and Our Lady Star of the Sea
How are you? I hope this letter will find you well? I am writing this letter to say how much I am grateful to work with you and all the support that I have received. I can’t pass without thanking you from the bottom of my heart. Although as a person you taught me a lot in my life .You trust me so your trust helped me to be more committed in the responsibility which I am carrying in and helped me to be motivated. The confidence which I have now to be in the middle of the poor and share their suffering all because of you my dear, to be honest I have no words to express what I feel. Throughout the years of experience the poor also taught me a lot, especially the meaning of life. Life is a very important and great gift that human beings have. So to serve the poor who have no one to help them. So through the year we have had many struggles to overcome but each day we tried our best to minimize challenges and improve the quality of life of the poor here in Bulbul. Even though it seems that the poverty, the problems, the suffering, the crying of the poor, the hanger, refugees, displacement, war, and the wars result from the ring and it seems also increasing, So because of your generosity we able to be among and with the poor sharing their pain and suffering. The activities which we run, As a result of these your great generosity is reflected in the amount (683) of poor people that have been helped by your contributions. It is a great support and it brought a great change in the life of those who are used to their opportunity. As you may be aware from the media, the problem of the country is going on with civil war which is really hard to believe. this resulted in some groups of societies who have been more vulnerable than others are affected so we are trying to support these kind of people like children who are with disabilities, medical treatment, and after their treatment we encourage them to go to school , the sponsorship program provides school materials, school uniform and school fee for the children who are in need to go to school, elderly people who are waiting for help we support food treatment and clothe, mothers who have land got corn seed support, and kindergarten 280 children food every day at tea break. They wouldn’t have the chance to go to school without our support because their families are very poor and they can’t support their children to send them to school.
Your great support and kindness enabled children to attend school and receive a good education which is vital to a child’s development. Here in our area most of the youth dropped their school so we are providing them job opportunities to support themselves.
Opportunities, we face the continuing struggle of the increasing demand from young children, young mothers and the vulnerable for our help.
I would not have been able to realize this work and be present with the poor without your immense prayer.
With love and prayer
God Bless You,
Sr Abeba kidane Bulbula
Year 6 School Leaders: At Our Lady Star of the Sea, we value the importance of all students having an opportunity and a voice. We ensure this happens in our engaging curriculum in all year levels. In Year 6, we value the opportunity for every student to have the opportunity to be a school leader in some capacity and thus all learn to further their leadership skills before heading into secondary school. The power and benefits of this opportunity for these students to “take charge” and play an active part in improving things across the school cannot be underestimated. We have a variety of roles including action groups which enable student agency and positive contributions in making some beneficial change in their school and wider. We have recently been very impressed by our Year 6 students and Year 2 students who have worked really well and presented amazing speeches as part of their application to leadership roles. The best we have seen yet!
Below are the student leadership roles for 2024. We wish them all the best as they learn and grow as leaders and, with Grateful Hearts, excel in their roles.
Community Events: In the past week we have had Meet and Greets, a Working Bee and beginning of year barbecue. We thank all our families for engaging in one or all of these.
Special thanks to our Working Bee families. Casey Kilkenny, James Kilkenny, Darcie Kilkenny,Roy Kilkenny, Neill Brown, indiana Brown, Tracey Sama, Lynn Mills, Ryan Mills, Poppy Finnigan, jason garwood, Jenna Garwood, Chris Dickeson, Eli Dickeson, Nick Wright, John Wright, Jack McDonald, Genevieve Audley, Casey McDonald, Phoenix Brown, Beau Brown, Charity Bowen.
Research shows that children improve their learning outcomes by approximately 12 % when families engage with the school and show an interest in their child's education. We look forward to continuing to build our positive relationships with all families as the year continues. Please ensure you continue to engage with your classroom teacher or the school, as required, and know how we truly value our welcoming and “open door” culture.
Wishing you a wonderful fortnight ahead.

Schools Clean Up - Friday 1st March
This Friday 1st March, our students will be joining the nationwide effort to Clean Up!
Each hub will be allocated a specific area within the school grounds, around Shell Road Reserve, the tennis courts or our Church.
With all year levels currently studying Biological Sciences as their Inquiry unit, this whole school activity is a relevant, hands on action we are taking to learn about the impact of rubbish on our local environment, particularly on our animals, mini beasts and marine life, while playing an active role in caring for school grounds and our local community.
