From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to Term 2. I trust you all had a joyful Easter period and your children are re energised and ready to engage in the great learning opportunities and growth Term 2 will bring.

Final week of Term One: The final week of Term 1 saw our students celebrating their learning via an expo of their learning. It was wonderful to see the students so passionate about their learning, sharing success with their science learning and designs and using wonderful growth mindset language. The photos in Hub News show some of the engagement and excitement.

Further to our expos we continued to build on the connection and relationships across the school and indeed, celebrating our catholicity. Our Year 5/ 6 students worked beautifully on the Stations of the Cross which were displayed and shared throughout the playground. All classes Prep- 6 were able to walk around and reflect on each station at their own leisure. Year 6 led their Prep buddies through this activity. They also shared Buddy Holy Week boxes and books. The effort by students and  teachers was inspiring and gave more authentic learning and meaning to our easter story.

Many thanks also to the PFA who organised the Easter Raffle. The total money raised was $1,711. $1000 will go to the school and $711 to Caritas. Thank you also to the families who donated to the Project Compassion Lenten Appeal.

Naming of our Multi Purpose Hall Competition:

As you know, we are nearing the completion of our capital works building. We have 4 new Classrooms (Orange Hub) and a Multi Purpose Hall that has the capacity to hold 700 people.

As we have done in the past with naming our House Colours and creating our School Motto, "Setting the Right Course", we are inviting any members of our Learning Community to suggest a name for  our new Multi Purpose Hall. You can discuss as a family and suggest as many possibilities as you like. Please suggest via this Google form

We will then shortlist with the Year 6 students and School Advisory Council and invite a consensual vote via a final Google form.

There will be a mystery prize for the winning family.

We are in exciting times and look forward to enjoying our new facilities sometime this term. We will confirm dates of handover as soon as we know.

No ANZAC Day March 2021: As many of you know, we normally participate in the ANZAC day march as a school and lay a wreath on ANZAC day. With no ceremony this year we will not be participating. We look forward to the reopening of this event next year and taking part again.

Student  Free Day:

On Friday 30 April we will be having a Professional Learning Day on Inquiry Learning- “Igniting the Spark.” Our teachers continually look for opportunities to engage and motivate our students, promote student voice and choice and improving their capabilities. We look forward to building our knowledge and capacity on this day to bring further rich, authentic and purposeful learning opportunities to our students which will continue to see them engaged, connected and challenged as per our priority in our Annual Action Plan.

COVID Update:

The Victorian Government relaxed its COVIDSafe settings on Friday 26 March 2021.

Changes to the COVIDSafe settings include allowing more visitors in the home, changes to mask wearing in some settings and updates to density limits in some settings. There are limited changes for schools. Visitors continue to be welcome at our school, however face masks must be carried by individuals 12 years and over at all times and worn when physical distancing of 1.5 metres cannot be maintained. Individuals aged 12 years and over must continue to wear a face mask when on public transport, school buses and when in taxis or ride share vehicles – unless they have a lawful exemption.Thank you for your understanding and support throughout this term as we continue to implement COVIDSafe practices at our school.

MACS Policies:

Please see below two more updated policies that have also been added to the website. We value the partnerships we share with you and would like to make you aware of the clear, respectful processes we have in place to support any concerns you may have.
