From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 3.
I trust you had an enjoyable holiday. It is wonderful to have our happy, enthusiastic students back, refreshed and ready for a great term of learning. As stated in a letter to you last week, we continue to abide by the COVID 19 regulations and guidelines from last term, particularly in regards to drop off and pick up, social distancing, minimising access onsite and hand hygiene.
Whilst we are aware of COVID cases reported in the area we have received no further health advice in regard to our setting. If this was to occur we are very well supported with a communication pack and steps to follow. We continue to ensure we are adhering to all health advice for our context as the health and safety of all in our community is paramount.
Your children may also have mentioned that we are trialling, for this point in time, year levels playing in designated areas of the school grounds to reduce mingling across year levels in the playground. We are ensuring that the year levels can rotate around these play areas on alternate days. This is in place for this week initially.
Communication: Last week, a letter was sent via our whole school group email to all families about our return this week. I am aware that one family did not receive it. This is something that has happened for families in the past even after checking your SPAM or junk mail. It appears our system, which says all have been sent on our end, may experience a glitch every now and then. Email is our preferred method when communicating letters to the whole school. Therefore we are considering sending our group emails out through schoolzine if this continues to be an issue. We will notify you if we change our avenue for sending whole school emails out. We also ask you to download the SZApp to receive brief notifications. Clear and timely communication is very important as a service from us to you and we will continue to monitor.
Year 4 /5 and Year 2 Swimming Program: The Year 4 /5 five day swimming program which is due to begin next week, 20 July has been cancelled. We will look at rescheduling later in the year.
The Year 2 five day swimming program which is due to begin 27 -31 July has also been cancelled. We will look at rescheduling later in the year.
We are still waiting to make a decision about the Year 1 swimming program which is not until August and we will keep you updated.
Year 3/4 Camp: Year 3/4 camp to Sovereign Hill in Term 3 has been cancelled. We are looking at rescheduling for Term 4.
Year 5/6 Camp reminder: Year 5 and 6 will not go to Melbourne this year but somewhere more local in Term 4. When we know, we will confirm these details.
Assembly: As per last term, we are still continuing to live stream our assemblies via Google Meet to all classes. We are also sending the link home via whole school group email on Friday for those families wishing to view, particularly if your child's class is on assembly. This week assembly is being presented by Year 6 LG and next week Year 3 BC. This week also keep an eye out for the Year 6 Term 3 School Leaders who will receive their badges.
Victorian Sustainability Awards: At the end of last term we received our sustainability award trophies which are beautifully made out of recycled soft plastic. We thank Kelvin Agg from Replas who made them and also educated our students on the importance of recycling soft plastics and the products that can be made from this recycling.

New Building: We are about to embark on our new build with a start date in the first week of August. This is a very exciting venture and the time frame is looking to have the building completed by the middle of 2021. Students had begun getting involved last term with engaging mathematical activities working with the plans of the new build. We will continue to provide engaging learning activities for our students which are connected to the new building.
Student Free Day cancelled: As communicated last term, a reminder that our planned student free day for Berry Street training on Friday 24 July has been cancelled. Therefore, school is open for students on this day.
Wishing you all good health for the fortnight ahead.
Kerryn
