Confirmed cases of Chicken Pox have been reported in Blue Hub.
Please ensure that if your child shows signs or symptoms of the disease that he or she remains at home until they are well. Children with Chicken Pox can attend school if the lesions can be covered adequately. This is usually 5 days after the rash appears in unimmunised children, but may be less in previously immunised children. Exclusion from swimming and contact sports should be advised for seven days after the rash appears.
For more information go to https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/chickenpox This link includes information about vaccination against Chicken Pox. A single dose immunisation against chickenpox is included for free, for 18 month - 4 year old children in the National Immunisation Schedule however research shows that two doses of chickenpox vaccine in children provides increased protection and reduces the risk of chickenpox occurring at a later time. The government funds one free dose of a chickenpox-containing vaccine, and a parent or carer can purchase another dose, on prescription. Discuss this with your immunisation provider.
