Dear Parents, 

You are invited to attend the 2019 Annual General Meeting of Our Lady Star of the Sea School Parents and Friends Association.

The School Education Board encourages the Parents and Friends Association to continue to be an energetic and successful association. All parents of Our Lady Star of the Sea School are members of the Parent and Friends Association. The PFA provides support to the school by organising activities aimed to bring school families together and funds raised through PFA activities are donated to the school.
The Annual General Meeting is held in November to enable the incoming committee to be well prepared for the new school year and its associated responsibilities

Aims of the PFA
To be involved in a catholic school community, where all parents, friends and parishioners will feel welcome and involved spiritually and socially.

To primarily to provide social contact between parents, extended family members, staff and friends of the school and to raise funds to be used for school purposes
To assist the School Education Board in promoting co-operation between the school and the wider community.
The roles of the committee of the Parents and Friends Association have been structured to ensure that no one office holder is required to commit more time than another and each will be fully supported by a very enthusiastic group of people.
The Parents and Friends Association committee roles for 2020 are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, School Board Representative, Events Liaison Representative, Parent Liaison Year Level Representatives and General Committee Members. These roles are one year in tenure and therefore are voted for each year. Parents can hold positions for more than one year but must be voted in each year. All committee members are expected to attend the general meetings and the annual meeting.
Roles
President:  The role of the President is to be the main representative for the PFA.  The President will be required to chair meetings, liaise with the Executive and work towards a collaborative approach with other members of the school community, including the Parish Priest, Principal and School Education Board, the fundraising groups and any other sub committees.
Vice President: The Vice President assumes the role of the President in the absence of the President.  Liaise with the Principal and School Board as directed by the President. The Vice-President is to be responsible for supporting the parent liaison year level representatives who provide an avenue of communication between the Parents and Friends Association and the school community.
Secretary: The Secretary will work with the President and Executive.  He/she will be required to prepare Agendas and take Minutes at meetings and deal with incoming/outgoing correspondence.  The Secretary is responsible for circulating the minutes to all members present and or absent at any given meeting.   The Secretary is to provide communication to the school community through the school newsletter.
Treasurer:  It is the Treasurer's responsibility to take charge of monies of the PFA and to keep accurate financial records of all receipts and expenditure.  The Treasurer will be required to report regularly on the PFA's financial position at meetings. The Treasure will ensure the sub-committees conducting events follow the Parents and Friends Association Guidelines and financial procedures and the necessary documentation is completed.
School Board Representative (SBR):  The SBR will be required to attend School Board meetings and  and the Parents and Friends meetings to foster open communication and cooperation between the School Board and the PFA.  He/she will support the work of the Uniform Shop, Ground Maintenance and Canteen committees.
Events Liaison Representative (ELR): The Events Liaison Representative will be responsible for encouraging family participation and supporting groups conducting events and activities throughout the year.  He/she will be an avenue of communication between the event and activity working groups and the PFA. The ELR will oversee the sub-committees conducting events throughout the year and ensure that the Parents and Friends Association Guidelines and procedures are followed and the necessary documentation is completed.
Parent Liaison Year Level Representatives: Parent Liaison Year Level Representatives from each of the seven-year levels (Prep to Year 6) will attend meetings. They are responsible for ensuring avenues for communication between Parents and Friends and the parent community and to encourage parents to participate in events and activities. Parent Liaison Year Level Representatives are to be supportive of the Parents and Friends Association activities.
General Committee Members: General Committee Members attend the meetings and support the Parents and Friends Association activities.
