From the principal

Dear Parents and Carers

I trust that the holiday period for you all went well and you all are feeling refreshed and  energised.

I have the incredible fortune of currently being on a brief Principal Pilgrimage in Rome, Loreto and Assisi for 9 days. The professional learning program is providing me with the opportunity to encounter, engage and embark on a leadership journey underpinned by our Catholic Faith. I am immersed in a rich learning environment centred on the stories of our catholic faith. This incredible opportunity is not lost on me particularly after only just experiencing my first Europe trip earlier this year. Feeling very blessed. I will be returning at the end of the second week and look forward to seeing you at our Arts Trail next Thursday 16 October. Planning is well underway and we are very excited by this event. Many thanks to Rachael Thomas and her team.

During my absence, Paul Anderson will be Acting Principal with Rebecca Nancarrow and Corey Gallagher as Acting DP's in the first week. Marianne Caddy will be Acting Deputy Principal in the second week.

I thank these school leaders in advance for ensuring a wonderful start to term four.

Principal for the day: Many thanks to Ruby Prout for a great job as principal for the day last term and her deputy principal Gemma Geerings

We ended the term with some beautiful football day celebrations and we raised $435 for the Opening Doors Foundation. Many thanks to you all for these contributions.

MISSION FETE

A highlight of Term 4 is always our Mission Fete. The Catholic Church calendar celebrates Mission Week every year. Traditionally Catholic schools, including Our Lady Star of the Sea, have supported the work of the Catholic Missions through fundraising. This money has assisted initiatives in the poorest communities throughout the world.

At Star of the Sea we have been supporting the community of Bulbula in Ethiopia for over ten years. This came about through a former student, who was adopted from Ethiopia and was able to share with us the plight of this community. We work closely with Sr Abeba in Bulbula, to ensure the money we raise at Mission Fete assists the greatest number of people.

We also use money raised to support local groups, such as our Vinnie’s Christmas Hampers.

Our Mission Fete will take place on Friday 7 November.

This day includes:

  • Liturgy
  • Social justice activities
  • Sausage sizzle
  • Mission Fete
  • Raffle

Please stay tuned for more information via the newsletter and Hub News in coming weeks.

Basketball Win: Congratulations to our Year 6 students who won the Bellarine Divisional basketball in the last week. They will go on to the next stage. Amazing effort!

Bike riders: Please have continued safety chats with your children. We are aware from last term that many Star of the Sea students are not being safe at all times when riding. Particularly those accessing via the top gate through the swimming pool entrance. Please discuss with your children the importance of walking their bikes through here and being mindful of all traffic, including pedestrians. We are also having ongoing safety conversations at school.

Wishing you a fun and creative fortnight ahead.
