From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

National Reconciliation Week always runs from May 27th to June 3rd, marking the anniversaries of the 1967 referendum and the Mabo decision. Our Lady Star of the Sea, as part of its Catholic identity and commitment to peace, will be focusing on reconciliation, highlighting that it's something all Australians need to embrace in their hearts, minds and actions to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme for NRW 2025, "Bridging Now to Next," emphasises learning from the past as we move forward together. All students will be involved in classroom activities throughout the week. It's a great opportunity for learning and reflection.

Further to peaceful actions, we thank all families for sending in a photo of your front doors. The following visual of our display calls us to reflect and pray "May our hearts and school always be open to welcome others with kindness and to share peace with those who enter."

School Disco: Just a reminder that the school disco is coming up this Friday 23 May and there are a few exciting changes happening this year! The disco will still include lots of music and dancing but there will also be some more structured activities and games in the main hall.

In addition to the usual breakout room, this year we are also running a fun silent disco in Orange Hub, which includes headphones.

As you drop your children off on the night we ask you enter via the orange hub doors near the vegetable garden and to sign in using one of the many QR codes displayed along the way. When you collect we will do so via the hall foyer doors. Please be mindful of car and pedestrian traffic as we enter and exit the premises in a respectful, patient way.

Mother’s Day Celebrations Thank you: We hope  you all enjoyed the Mother’s Day celebrations last week. I know the students certainly were full of zest and enthusiasm to make you feel special. Many thanks also to the dad’s who got on board with cooking the sausages and Jess Bamfield for donating some sausages through her work. The teachers drew on their creative skills, along with the students, to ensure you received a lovely surprise on Sunday. Thank you also to 3 JR for a heartwarming assembly recognising our mothers and special adults in our lives.

Sacrament News

A huge congratulations to Stevie White, Isla Furness, Lucy Vanderkley and Xavier White who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday last week. Miss Lib MacPherson was instrumental in volunteering to thoroughly prepare these students.

Xavier White and Kirby White also took part in the Sacrament of First Eucharist at the Parish Mass on Sunday. Once again, Miss Lib along with the children’s families helped them prepare for this sacred ritual. Congratulations Xavier and Kirby.

Technology at Our Lady Star of the Sea: We take great pride in our Digital Technologies Program at Our Lady Star of the Sea along with the education we provide on an ongoing basis to support our students making responsible decisions online. Our Year 5 and Year 6 students are having the opportunity to participate in online safety interactive workshops with KD solutions over the next couple of weeks and we will also be inviting you to  a parent session either virtually or online. Stay tuned. The following link takes you to a document on how we use the IPADS for learning at Our Lady Star of the Sea.
