From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you have managed to have a wonderful and restful long weekend. It is often said, once we come to the end of the Melbourne Cup long weekend school life is so full that it seems to be the end of the year in the blink of an eye. Let's all ensure that we take the opportunity to appreciate being in the moment with all the wonderful events that are still to come for the 2024 year and the continued learning that is taking place.

This week would be considered the most exciting week of the year for our students with Friday being our mission fete day. Below you can see some photos of the amazing prizes that are available through our raffle. You will also have access to what your children bring for their stalls.  We cannot thank all our families enough for getting behind such a wonderful cause in our mission Fete as we make a difference to the lives of many.

This year our theme for Mission Fete has been “I am a Gift” and we have been looking at this Scripture and what it means for us, as part of our Religion and Social Justice this term across the school. Ask me what my gift is.

Peter 4:10 - 11

10 Each of you received a spiritual gift. God has shown you his grace in giving you different gifts. And you are like servants who are responsible for using God’s gifts. So be good servants and use your gifts to serve each other.

Research shows, involving primary school students in fundraising for the less fortunate promotes empathy, teamwork, and social awareness. It teaches them responsibility, financial skills, and problem-solving, while building confidence and leadership. This hands-on experience helps them feel a sense of purpose and pride, encouraging a lifelong commitment to community and compassion. We look forward to this meaningful event again for us all this coming Friday.

Many thanks to our wonderful Lib MacPherson for her continued very generous donation of gifts each year and to our wonderful staff who have kindly donated towards these incredible raffle prizes.

Rotary awards

Rebecca Nancarrow and I  had the pleasure and privilege of attending the Junior Leadership Rotary Awards last week. We would just like to commend 14 of our Year 6 students who completed the program this year. The  benefit of participating in this program and the development of the students through this experience is immense. The connections made with community and giving back to the community, the upskilling and perseverance it entails  and the reflective shared experiences of these students was wonderful. We are very proud of  Claire Francis, Winni Ward, Elke White, Lola Carr, Isla Bateup, Nicholas Wright, Gus Morgan, Max Bonacci, Freddy Dickinson, Daisy Bianco, Willow Armitstead, Isaac Geerings, Billy Levis and Keely Russell. A massive thank you to Lyndy Stagg and her team; Judy, Tony, Jenny and others from Rotary that supported our students. Below are photos of Winnie Ward and Nicholas Wright who presented on the night.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ocean Grove Rotary group for bringing this initiative to our students and mainly Lyndy, Tony and Judy. As stated above in regards to Mission Fete, the  benefits of students having meaning and purpose while making a difference for others is so evident in this opportunity for the community rotary program and we strongly encourage all families of Year 6  students to take up the opportunity when it is your child's turn at the beginning of Year 6.

Safety Message: We have had further reports of students being unsafe on bikes travelling to and from school and a near miss with a car having to slam on their brakes. Please give your children a reminder about safe travel as we have done at assembly again last week.

Wishing you a purpose filled and meaningful fortnight ahead.
