From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

Our Lady Star of the Sea staff value, in partnership with families, supporting our students to be respectful and responsible citizens. This has been evident again in the last week where we have seen many attend the ANZAC ceremony and all of us at the whole school assembly, where we were part of the spiritual and educational induction of our new FIRE Carrier Ambassadors.

ANZAC Day Liturgy and Anzac Day March: All students participated in a liturgy within their year levels to show respect to our ANZACs as they represent the sacrifices and valor of those who served our nation. Thank you to Rebecca Nancarrow, our wonderful RE Leader for preparing the beautiful liturgy for the classes. By honoring the ANZACs, students learn about the importance of remembrance, gratitude and the values of courage, selflessness and dedication to duty. Recognising and respecting the contributions of the ANZACs not only preserves their memory but also instills a sense of national pride and appreciation for the freedoms and privileges we enjoy today.

With grateful hearts, we honored our ANZACs at the march and appreciated the students and families who attended the service.Thank you to the following students for representing our school so proudly: Billy Levis, Keely Reid, Lola Carr, Angus Carter, Poppy Carter, Zoe Van Der Hayden, Winni Ward, Alfie Ward, Quincy Stephens, Daisy Bianco, Billy Carr, Aston Mills, Willow Armistead, Noah White, Ivy WillIams, Jack Williams, Arlia Gant, Jesse Jamieson, Elsie Walter, Lincoln Salter, Harvey Salter, Daisy Packwood, Millie Packwood, Ella Gauld, Amara Gauld, Mia Rundle, Gus Morgan, Koko Piec, Jett Piec, Charlie Dyer, Olivia Burchell, Poppy Finnigan, Maggie Daniher, Lyla Daniher, Finn Leighton, Hope Leighton, Gemma Geerings, Jack McDonald, River Franks, Beau Brown, Phoenix Brown, Peggy Butters, Nina Butters, Millie McCormack, Harrison D'Arcy, Georgianna D'Arcy, Kealan Lester, Evie Lester, Gemma Quinn, Florence Donnelly, Taigh McKerracher, Saoirse McKerracher, Billy Garland, Jaida Bapaume, Charlise Bapaume, Olive Bryan, Arlo Kelsall-Ralph, Ruby Kelsall-Ralph, Indi Brown, Lucy Francis, Stella Knights, Zara Knights, Billy Lister, Eadie Lister, Ollie McQuitty, Tilly Occhipinti.

Fire Carriers Ambassadors: On Friday we gathered to officially commission our Year 6 FIRE Carriers. Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education. This is an important moment as we recognise the leadership role these students are taking on within our school and community. As FIRE Carriers, they share a deep passion for understanding Aboriginal culture and history. Fire is central to Aboriginal culture, around which people gather to share and celebrate. We are reminded to look for good in all people, speak with kindness, listen deeply and serve others through our actions. Congratulations Ashton, Jed, Bas, Gabe and April and special thanks to Ms Emily and Ms Marianne for the planning and giving us all the privilege of being part of this educational and spiritual assembly.

Supporting our Children’s Mental Health- more Resources:  There is a connection between exposure to traumatic events and mental health issues, and it is important to be ready to support children and young people who may be struggling.

Here are some helpful sites and resources for you to access as required as together we care for and keep our children safe.

  • The eSafety Commissioner has released support resources for children, young people and their families on how to deal with violent or distressing content when viewed online.
  • Families may want to take further precautions to ensure that access to disturbing online content is limited, and resources for children and young people are available.
  • Additional resources to support children and young people  in dealing with tragic and distressing events can be found through the Be You fact sheets on grief, trauma and critical incidents
  •  Further information can be found on the eSafety Commissioner’s website, including advice for parents and carers on using parental controls and general online safety.

Mother’s and Significant Adult Night: We are so excited to invite you to our school Mother’s/ Significant Person’s celebration on Wednesday 8 May from 5-6.30pm. It’s always such a lovely time to celebrate those who hold special places in our hearts for all the love and care they show.

Each Hub has made arrangements to have teacher representation who will be  in attendance to support the children in showcasing their work, taking a photo, choosing an activity. Also a gentle reminder your child stays with you throughout your time at the event and there is one sausage per person. We are also grateful to the teachers being available for after school events as we truly value community engagement and keeping our community spirit alive.

Wishing you all a peace filled fortnight ahead.
