From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

Our parish, Holy Trinity Parish, comprises 3 mass centres. St Aloysius in Queenscliff, Holy Family in Barwon Heads and Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ocean Grove. On Sunday was the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, which is also our Parish Feast Day.

The Trinity is a mystery, however if we think of the sun in the sky (God), the light that shines from it (Jesus) and the heat that comes from it (the Spirit) we experience three separate things, yet one does not exist without the other.

Making the Sign of the Cross is a gesture that makes a statement of our faith in the Holy Trinity. It is a prayer and summary of our faith. Wherever Jesus is, there we shall find God the Father. Wherever the Father is, there we shall see God the Son. Where Father and Son are, the Spirit is there with them. They are three and yet they are one. God who is Father, God who is Son, God who is Spirit. God made one by love. This doctrine, or teaching of the Church on the Holy Trinity is central to Christian beliefs about God. Recently in the Church liturgical calendar we celebrated Pentecost Sunday where God sent the Holy Spirit amongst the disciples and our Year 6 students also received the Sacrament of Confirmation, calling them to live out in their actions, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

From Little Things; Big Things Grow: Last week we presented our Fire Carriers Ambassadors at assembly which was a fitting day on National Sorry Day, 6 years since the publication of the Uluru statement and the day we shared our action for Reconciliation Week, “From Little Things, Big Things Grow.” Members of the choir Year 4-6 were well supported by Miss Bella and Miss Emily. The Year ones also joined in for the chorus. The aim of this activity was to create awareness and build understanding. This song is a true story. This song tells the story of a Gurindji man who worked as a stockman on the Wave Hill Cattle Station. Vincent Lingiari led his people as they endured an 8-year long strike from 1966, in response to the terrible wages and working conditions they faced while working for Lord (Samuel) Vestey. It was a very long and important protest in acknowledging land rights for Aboriginal Australians.

Reports and 3 Way Conversations:  Here we are in June with Semester One almost complete. It only seems like yesterday that the first day of school was here and everyone was in their new learning settings, making friends and getting to know their teachers. Six months later it is time to look back and see the progress that has happened, as well as looking forward to setting new learning intentions for Semester Two. This is a wonderful time for your child to proudly share their achievements and what they are working towards.

Teachers are completing written reports to parents, which provides an opportunity to acknowledge your child’s achievements for Semester One and proposed future learnings for Semester Two.

The teachers’ written comments outline achievements that students have demonstrated with skills and tasks completed during Semester One. Students have been involved in learning, investigating and the presentation of information that supports the development of new understandings. Teachers have also included future learning suggestions for your child in areas where they need support to achieve their best. Teachers make comments on your child’s social development. This aspect of the report will enable you to gain an understanding of how your child relates to others at school and some of the social skills and work habits they are demonstrating.

You have been offered the opportunity to attend a Student, Parent, Teacher Conversation. Please book a time via Operoo.

The students and teachers are preparing for these and we hope you find value in having a space with your child to celebrate. This is a great chance for your child to share aspects of their learning with you, for you to ask questions, find out how you can support your child’s learning and to establish a closer working relationship with their teacher. Before you attend the Student, Parent, Teacher Conversation talk to your child about their report. If you have a question, write it down and have it ready.

Annual report to the School Community: Each year we submit an annual report to the School community and add a copy to our website. Please

PFA Meetings online: During these colder months we go online with our PFA meetings. Last night was our first one and the next one is in Week 2 of Term 3, July 17 from 7 pm. Please feel free to join us and gain insight, becoming involved in the comfort of your home. All are welcome.

Some Fun: It was fantastic last week to have a flash mob dance during lunchtime to Tina Turner’s, the Nutbush. We enjoy these spontaneous opportunities to have some extra fun with your wonderful children. Press Play below to see how gorgeous your children are in their engagement. As we know, laughing together is wonderful for lifting spirits and growing our positive relationships.

Wishing you a joyful and laughter filled fortnight ahead.
